Plantar Heel Pain
Understanding Plantar Fasciitis
If you experience sharp pain in your heel when you first step out of bed or discomfort after standing for long periods, you may be suffering from plantar fasciitis — the most frequent cause of heel pain treated in our clinic.
Plantar fasciitis develops when the plantar fascia, a strong band of tissue that supports the arch of your foot, becomes strained and inflamed. This inflammation causes pain under the heel, which is often most noticeable with the first steps in the morning or after rest.
You may also hear the condition referred to as heel spurs, policeman’s heel, or plantar fasciosis. Although these terms differ slightly, they all describe similar patterns of heel pain arising from irritation in the same region.
